Organisation

SICMED is based on a consortium of laboratories belonging to research bodies who met in Amman, Jordan, May 2009 : Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and France.

SICMED working groups

To respond to its goals, SICMED has developed a methodology of work taking account of the main scientific issues and specific Mediterranean anthropo-ecosystems.

At the crossroads scientific issues / ecosystems, thematic working groups, gathering French and foreign mediterranean scientists, French and forein, have been set up :

1. Functioning and management of plant canopies in Mediterranean ecosystems

2. Hydrological cycle and water resources management

3. Biogeochemical cycles and soil and water quality

4. Resources evaluation at regional scale

5. Territorial and social dynamics

6. Farming Systems

7. Integrated modelling of anthropo-ecosystems

A specific group on training an capacity building will also be set up.

The working groups will get together in 2010/ 2011 in order to:

- Determine the main stakes of each thematic and identify the specific issues tackled in SICMED.

- Clarify thematic outlines taking account of existing drivers and issues involved.

- Specify the main principles of research strategies that will be implemented.

Their conclusions will be included in the SICMED strategic framework document
